EDGE Barrel Aged Cocktails

Barrel-aged cocktails were a drink once reserved for cocktail-geeks and hipster bars, but now Miamians can now also enjoy them at the chic EDGE Steak & Bar inside the Four Seasons in Downtown Miami.

Basically, barrel aged cocktails are exactly what they sound like. Drinks are prepared in large batches — 5 liters in EDGE’s case — and stored in maple-wood barrels for 6 to 8 weeks. The resulting flavor is richer, deeper, and softer than a traditional cocktail creating a smooth and easily sippable drink.

For EDGE’s variation, it partnered with Gabe Orta of Bar Lab and Broken Shaker fame to create its first batch of libations. The inaugural barrel aged cocktail is the “Double Barrel Shooter” created with Bourbon, Dolin Sweet Vermouth, Liquor 43, and Angostura Bitters. Following that will be the “Bitter Edge” which is also Whiskey based made with a Chai & Aperol infusion and Orange Bitters.

Each barrel aged cocktail is $14 and will be available beginning this Wednesday, September 10. Plans for barrel-aged cocktails using a variety of different spirits are in the works, and management filled us in on the fact that the restaurant has already bought two more 20 liters barrels — meaning many, many more barrel-aged cocktails are in our future. We’ll cheers to that.
